The purpose of this part of the site is to help you find your back to the place where we all enjoyed such a marvelous few days together. We'll be back regularly and are sure that you, too, will enjoy any time you get to spend in this secret corner of the world.
| Schröcken is located in Vorarlberg, the westernmost province in Austria, very close to the border with Tyrolia. Here is a series of maps at coarse, medium, fine, and even very fine resolution (look for the blue circle in each map). And here is one of the village of Schröcken showing the area of Nesslegg, where we will stay and carry out most of the festivities. |
The first step to getting there for many of you will be getting to Europe and the closest major airports are located at Munich, Germany Zurich, Switzerland and Innsbruck, Austria. See below for driving instructions from there to Schröcken. We encourage you to book early, with Munich and Zurich having the most direct access from an airline near you.
Innsbruck is a cozy, friendly city in the heart of Tyrolia and makes a great base for a vacation in the alps. Salzburg, the city of Mozart and the Salzburg Festival, is also close by and always worth a visit. Munich is a major German city, a home of culture, commerce, and the Bavarian tradition. Zurich lies at the heart of Switzerland and offers easy access to all parts of the country.
To put this all into perspective, check out this overview map containing Schröcken (marked with the blue circle in the center of the map) and all three nearby of these cities.
It's hard to go wrong with visiting any of these places, however, Innsbruck has the easiest train and automobile connections, with the drive from Munich (see below) slightly further but also easy. The drive from Zurich is shorter than that from Munich but a little more complicated.
To drive from Munich to Schröcken is in two parts:

| Pension Berghof | Hotel Widderstein | Haus Strolz |
We have three suggestions for accommodations, all of which are just minutes--even seconds--from the events of the wedding. In fact, while it may be an adventure getting to Schröcken, once you have made it, you can park the car and forget about it.
The first option is the Pension Berghof, which is run by the mayor of Schröcken, Renate Schrammel, and her husband. The rooms at the Berghof are very cozy and authentic with wood paneled walls and a very friendly and homey atmosphere in the breakfast room. Rooms here cost between 22 and 24 Euros* per person per night. If we fill up the rooms in the Berghof, Renate's sister runs the pension next door, so we'll all be in the family.
For those who seek more luxury, we suggest the Hotel Widderstein, where we will also carry out some of the wedding day activities. The Widderstein has all the comforts of a fine European hotel, including a pool and sauna. Prices range from 50--80 Euros* per person per night.
There is also several apartments available, one of them from our host at the Friday evening dinner, called Haus Strolz. The prices range from 36--69 Euros* depending on the size.
*Note: A Euro is worth almost 20% more than a US Dollar these days and so about 1.5 Canadian Dollars.
Please send Rob an email with your reservation requests so that we can coordinate the accommodations.
